“All photographs are accurate…”

I was remembering one of the first discussions we had in class about the truth in photography, and came across this post on one of my favorite blogs, American Suburb X. It talks about Richard Avedon’s work and mentions one of his most famous quotes:

“The moment {a} fact is transformed into a photograph it is no longer a fact but an opinion. There is no such thing as inaccuracy in a photograph. All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth.”

I would be interested to hear what some of your thoughts are about this statement. If you have no time for thoughts, then perhaps treat you can treat yourself to a quick browse through of American Suburb X – its pretty awesome!!
